Transonic buffet alleviation via virtual control surfaces

چکیده

In this work, computational fluid dynamics simulations are carried out to assess the ability of control surfaces alleviate or suppress transonic buffet. Among available surfaces, upper trailing edge flaps were considered since they modify aerofoil pressure distribution and fix shock at an upstream position. Spoilers also studied as produce a similar effect by interfering with disturbance propagation in boundary layer prevent For both devices, sensitivities geometric parameters studied. The effectiveness these buffet methods is first assessed for 2D computations around different wing sections. As spoilers more effective, results on 3D configuration provided discuss influence finite-span devices aerodynamic performance. addition, simple model accounting changes flight Mach number together spoiler presented simulate scenario provide effective strategy suppression. framework numerical investigations, adoption virtual allows avoiding difficulties associated modelling slotted deployable devices.

Buffet Load Alleviation

High performance aircraft are, by their very nature, often required to undergo manoeuvres involving high angles of attack. Under these conditions unsteady vortices emanating from the wing and the fuselage will impinge on the twin fins (required for directional stability) causing excessive buffet loads, in some circumstances, to be applied to the aircraft. These loads result in oscillatory stres...

Numerical Study of Transonic Buffet on a Supercritical Airfoil

The flow of the Bauer–Garabedian–Korn (BGK) No. 1 supercritical airfoil is investigated by the solution of the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations with a two-equation lagged k–ω turbulent model. Two steady cases (M = 0.71, α= 1.396 deg and M = 0.71, α= 9.0 deg) and one unsteady case (M = 0.71, α= 6.97 deg), all with a far-stream Reynolds number of 20 × 106, are computed. The resu...

A Numerical Study of Transonic Buffet on a Supercritical Airfoil

The steady/unsteady flow of the BGK No. 1 supercritical airfoil is investigated by the solution of the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations with a two-equation k-ω turbulence model. The dual-time stepping method is used to march in time. Two steady cases ( 71 . 0 = Ma , 396 . 1 = α and 71 . 0 = Ma , 0 . 9 = α ) and one unsteady case ( 71 . 0 = Ma , 97 . 6 = α ), both with a far-stream 6 10...

Numerical Simulation of Transonic Buffet on Swept Wing of Supercritical Airfoils

This paper presents transonic buffet simulations over a swept wing of supercritical airfoils with Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) and Detached-Eddy Simulation (DES) methods. The NASA SC(2)-0714 airfoil is used as wing profile. Computations are conducted at free-stream Mach numbers from 0.72 to 0.84 for Reynolds number 45.0 × 10 based on aerodynamic chord length. Firstly, 2D NAS...

Multiple Solutions and Buffet of Transonic Flow over the NACA0012 Airfoil

Multiple solutions of the small-disturbance potential equation and the full potential equation were known for the NACA0012 airfoil in a certain range of transonic Mach numbers and at zero angle of attack. However the multiple solutions for this particular airfoil were not observed using Euler or Navier-Stokes equations under the above flow conditions. In the present work, both the Unsteady Reyn...
